Shafi Malekzadeh, head of Iran’s agricultural and natural resources trade union, said on the eve of the new crop year that the guaranteed purchase price of crops should be announced before the start of the crop season, which is the end of September.
He added: “Despite this timeframe, the government has not yet held any meetings to ask for their opinion on the purchase price of agricultural products and no price has been announced for the month.” It seems that the Economic Council and the Budget Organization have no plans to raise the prices of agricultural products, which would harm the country’s crop production and self-sufficiency.
If wheat prices are not announced on time in the coming year and prices are not considered for the current year, farmers will continue to produce crops such as vegetables.

He pointed out: There are some agricultural products that, in the current situation, can produce up to 5 times the need of the country and lead to the depletion of national resources and if the prices are incorrectly set, the guaranteed purchase price of the products will go to the producers. .
Malekzadeh said the self-sufficiency of wheat production in the coming crop year is threatened and the guaranteed purchase price of wheat in the current crop year has also fallen by 2 to 5 percent as a result of such decisions.

He said: Last year there were farmers who planted wheat but when they realized the guaranteed purchase price of wheat they plowed their crops and went to greenery and saffron production.

In response to what the Ministry of Jihad proposed for the coming year, he said: “The Ministry of Jihad has not announced its bidding rate to the trade union, and we have only been told that the rate was timely provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.
