According to the head of the wheat community of the country, wheat prices in neighboring countries are over 2,000 Tomans and lower wheat prices in the country will increase the possibility of smuggling wheat from Iran to the countries of the region.
In the city of Tabriz, Atahllah Hashemi stated: “Farmers of the province protested against the announcement of the time and purchase price of agricultural products.”
He added that wheat is a strategic product in providing food security, with an unbelievable rate of 14 thousand and 700 Rials, it was announced that there was only 13 % rise compared to last which contributes to strong protests from farmers to the two-month delay and announced rates.
Referring to farmer’s dissatisfaction with the purchase prices of agricultural products, he stated: According to Notes 1, 2 and 6 of the Purchase Act of 1368, the Ministry of Agriculture is obliged to propose to the government the purchase price of the basic products specified in this law by examining the actual production costs till July, and the government will declare prices through the public media by the end of September. But despite the legal actions of the Ministry of Agriculture on the announcement of purchase price for these products, the two-month delay in the Council of the Economy in announcing the price of wheat and other products has led to problems in this section.
The chairman of the Association of Wheat farmers stated that, unfortunately, the Economic Council do not have a complete knowledge of the process of production of agricultural products and the status of producers and their efforts or maybe they already know about all the issues and problems but they do not want to accept the realities.
He continued: the irregular and unfair prices announced by the Economic Council and the Planning and Budget Organization caused such an inflammation in the agricultural sector, especially for producers, which was unbelievable, which made them make a prompt decision and with unity and solidarity they will protest the government by not cultivating strategic products, including wheat; which logic will allow you to produce the product with difficulty overnight and then sell by half the price?
Hashemi noted: According to the expert estimates of Iran’s wheat foundation, the cost of producing one kilogram of wheat from the start of the planting stage and up to delivery to shopping centers is 1900 Tomans for dry wheat, and 1700 Tomans for blue wheat and our offer for an average purchase rate of 1800 Tomans while global wheat prices today is about 2400 Tomans with exchange rate of 8400 Tomans,.
The chairman of the Association of Wheat farmers stated that, the farmers’ confusion in choosing cultivars due to delays in the timely announcement of purchasing rates threatens the country’s food security and is an important threat to the continued self-sufficiency of agricultural crops, especially wheat, barley.
He added: Given the price of wheat in neighboring countries is more than 2 thousand Tomans, the possibility of smuggling wheat from Iran to the countries of the region will increase, and as a result of trafficking in wheat and the lack of delivery of wheat to the state, the wheat will be imported to the country. The inappropriate pricing of the Council of Economics has reduced the level of the cultivation of barley and wheat.
