Twelve and a half billion dollars of Turkish revenue from wheat exports
Turkey has earned twelve and a half billion dollars in global wheat trade over the past seventeen years .
Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Bakir Pakdemirli, said in a statement that while Turkey imported 2.5 million tonnes of wheat worth $ 2.8 billion between year 1 and 2, 1.2 million tonnes of wheat and wheat products were exported. Exports of flour, pasta and biscuits were worth $ 1.2 billion. This means that Turkey has generated about $ 1.5 billion in wheat trade over the past five years.
He added that Turkey is self-sufficient in wheat production by producing 2 million tons and consuming 2.5 million tons of wheat annually .
According to Anadolu news agency, wheat surplus is used to export wheat products from Turkey and is the world’s largest exporter of flour, Semolina and Bulgaria.
The Turkish minister of agriculture and forestry said the country supports its farmers in increasing their agricultural production.
