The head of the National Wheat Farmers Foundation of Iran stated that the level of wheat cultivation has decreased from 10% to 15% and the consumption of this crop has increased from 450,000 tonnes to280,000 tonnes this year.

Extension News – Atalahi Hashemi, Head of the National Wheat Farmers Foundation of Iran, sent letters to the National Inspection Agency pointing out that, according to the set of 2200 Tomans of wheat which is not commensurate with the inflation in the society, it reduces the level of wheat cultivation in the country by 10% to 15%. Has been.

The letter also points to a sharp decline in wheat seed consumption from 450000 tonnes last year to 280000 tonnes this year. Part of the Foundation’s letter to the Inspectorate-General of the country reads as follows:

1. Field reports from across the country indicate that the level of wheat cultivation has fallen by 10 to 15 percent and that the government has not declared economically advantageous prices for farmers and there is little interest in planting wheat.

2. A sharp reduction in the amount of seed that was modified from last year’s 450000 tonnes to 280000 tonnes this year indicates a decrease in the area under cultivation and farmers’ use of self-sowing seeds and lacking the quality needed to maintain production efficiency per unit area.

Therefore, to prevent the repetition of the wheat import scenario and the country’s exit from self-sufficiency in wheat, the issue of a guaranteed purchase price of agricultural products, in particular wheat, should be put on the agenda so that in the face of cruel global arrogance sanctions threatened by food insecurity.
