Targeting the growth of sea freight / Shipment of 600 thousand tons of wheat until the end of the year
“By the end of the year, we will have
600 thousand tons of wheat internally in the ports of Imam Khomeini, Chahbahar,
Shahid Rajai, Amir Abad and Anzali,” said the deputy director of the Ports
and Maritime Organization, saying that, according to the goal, the domestic transportation
would expand to domestic sea freight.
Mohammad Ali Hassanzadeh said at a news
conference referring to the Ports and Maritime Organization’s program for the
rapid growth of the internal transportation. About three weeks ago, domestic
wheat crops began with domestic shipping, and the first 20,000-ton wheat bin
went from Imam Port to Chahbahar Port.
Last day, the second 20,000-ton vessel from
western provinces sent wheat to Chabahar from the port of Imam, which is
currently being evacuated and discharged at the Chabahar port, which is being
coordinated by Iran’s public trading corporation.
The deputy port director of the Ports and Maritime
Organization said: Delivery of wheat in the Chahbahar port goes directly
through the truck to the eastern provinces of the country. It is also
stipulated that the port of Shahid Rajaee should be considered for the
transportation of goods from the Central Provinces.
Hassanzadeh continued: From next week, the Northern
provinces wheat will be transported in the form of domestic sea freight through
the Amirabad port to Bandar Anzali, and this wheat is for the provinces of
Ilam, Ardabil and Azerbaijan.
He added: “Previously, we had sea
freight in Karun, but due to the drop in the water level of Karoon, domestic
shipping was lost.
“By the end of this year, 450,000 tons
of wheat from Imam Port to Shahid Rajaee and Chahbahar ports and from Amir Abad
to Bandar Anzali will reach 150,000 tons by the end of this year, and by the
end of the year, we will have 600,000 tons of domestic sea freight,” said
the port deputy director of the Ports and Maritime Organization.
Hassanzadeh added: “Each ship holds 20
thousand tons of trucks per thousand.
He said the sucker device of cereals in Chahbahar
has the capacity to discharge and load 600 tons per hour, and discharging and
loading 30 trucks per hour.
The deputy director of the Ports and Maritime
Organization said: “The cost of saving fuel in the interior cabotage is
one billion Tomans, taking into account current fuel rates.
Hassanzadeh said: We have proposed that fuel
for ships be delivered to the domestic cabotage with a subsidy rate that has
not yet been finalized. However, this carriage model is subject to the Carriage
of Goods Act.
He said the sea freight of cereals would
economically more feasible, saying: “Before that, we had the internal transportation
of wheat food and so on, and the gasoline of Sistan and Baluchestan province
was provided through the Chahbahar Port.
The deputy of the Ports and Maritime
Organization said: We have studied that the economic distance of wheat shipment
by a truck in Iran is 400 kilometers and not more than that, for the transport
of railways is 700 kilometers. For this reason, the most affordable shipping
mode is a hybrid method.
Hassanzadeh said that at the High Council of
Logistics, with the presence of representatives of the eastern provinces, it
was approved that 20 percent of the basic goods imported from the eastern
provinces of the country should be evacuated to Chahbahar, since the goods that
were to be discharged in the port of Zahedan, South Khorasan or Mashhad were
previously discharged in Imam port, and then they were transported to eastern
provinces by truck.
“We had a total of 5,000 unloaded ships
and trucks in this section, but with the activation of the domestic sea
freight, a lot of this traffic will be removed,” he continued.
The Ports and Maritime Organization’s deputy
port manager said three ports at Logistical Council were introduced as the
first level logistics port which includes Imam Khomeini ports, Shahid Rajai and
Shahid Beheshti Chabahar ports, and Amir Abad port was also introduced as the
second level logistics port.
Hassanzadeh emphasized: The domestic sea
freight does not cause a problem for the trucks in relation to the cargo
amounts because the grains are transported by road from Chahbahar port.
“We also cooperate with the foreign
companies that have exports and according to the regulations we are obliged to
obtain exchange currencies from them, the domestic ships will be charged in
Iranian Rials instead” he said about the foreign exchange shipments
received by the Ports Organization.
The deputy director of Port and Marine
Organization added: “We have THC issues for Iranian and foreign companies,
which is about 8 thousand Tomans, which is equivalent to the foreign exchange
value of the Senate and the Iranian equivalent to Nimaee currency.
Hassanzadeh said about the provision of fuel
subsidies to domestic shipping companies: this should be checked by the
Ministry of Oil, but we have made suggestions.
He also said that we have faced a shortage of
capacity when we shut down some of our lines to our ports, but if domestic
companies can build standard containers that have the ability to navigate, we
will sell these containers to the purchasers of these containers. We provide
facilities.
The Ports and Maritime Organization Port
Authority Deputy said that in the High Council for Transportation Coordination
we have proposed to compensate for the shortage of containers from shipping
companies, if possible, a second container, which has been approved by the
Supreme Transportation Council for this facility, and we expect it to last for
two months The future will come to a conclusion.
Hassanzadeh said that our shipping companies
will be shipping to most ports of the world, but the operator terminal may not
welcome our presence due to partnership with the US, emphasizing that no
country has officially announced that they will not go to their ports.
He also pointed to the ports evacuation and
loading figures, saying: “During the 10 months of this year, we had 111
million tons of oil and non-oil loading and unloading, which dropped by 13%
from the same period last year, mainly due to trade restrictions, the limit of
1,400 quantity caused this decline.
The vice-president of the Ports and Maritime
Organization added: “We had a decrease of 11.7% in the area of oil and
product loading and unloading, and we lost 13% in the non-oil sector of General
Cargo and bulk.”
