Projection of increased wheat production in the country despite floods

“Despite recent floods and acute damage to wheat production in
provinces like Khuzestan and Golestan, self-sufficiency in wheat production is
also being repeated in current year, and production will increase in comparison
with the previous year,” said the Ministry of Agriculture’s wheat project
manager .

 Ismail Esfandiari, director
of the agricultural ministry’s wheat plan, said: Flood damage to wheat
production in the provinces of Khuzestan and Golestan is acute, but the overall
increase in rainfall has had a positive effect on the production of this
product in the country.

He added: despite the damage to wheat production in some provinces,
but in the national sectors there is no concern about the supply or reduction
of production; there is no wheat in the country; the production of wheat was
expected to be excellent this year, and despite these floods, the wheat
production remained in good condition.

The director of the wheat plan at the Ministry of Agriculture
continued: We do not worry about the amount of wheat production for the current
year, and we still believe that the production of this enclosure will increase
in the country from next year, and the government will collect more wheat from
farmers for a guaranteed purchase.

He stated that wheat production in dry lands this year is higher
than in the previous year, adding that wheat production has not yet been
investigated after the recent floods, but ultimately there is no problem in
supplying the wheat needed by the country from domestic production.

Flooding in plain areas does not necessarily mean absolute damage

According to the Ministry of Agriculture’s wheat plan, referring to
flood-affected wheat fields, flood plain landscaping is not a cause for total
damage, and depends on the growth of wheat and the amount of water exhausted
from the farm.

He said wheat production and the guarantee of wheat purchases this
year have certainly increased since last year, and overall, the entire country
has no problems with domestic supply and the situation is promising.

Expressing that this year wheat self-sufficiency is repeated in the
country, Esfandyaripur said that the wheat cultivar is about 2 percent more
than in the previous year, while on the other hand, due to rising rainfall,
farms are in a favorable situation and only In the three provinces of Sistan
and Baluchestan, Kerman and Yazd, the rainfall was less than normal, but in
other provinces, the rainfall was higher than normal, and rainfall was
effective with proper distribution.

He stressed that the rainfall is still higher in some provinces
compared to the total rainfall of the past. The quality of the basic seed of
wheat has also increased this year, and the level of supply of urea for wheat
production has been 30% higher this year than last year.
