Good year for the country’s wheat supply
The
implementer of the wheat plan of the Ministry of Agriculture evaluated the
current state of crop cultivation in the country.
According to
the public relations of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi of Fars, Esmail Esfandiari Pour
visited the wheat fields of Fars province, said: Considering the suitable crop
conditions, uniformity of the green area and plant deployment in the province,
if our farming conditions continue to do so and In the spring, the average
rainfall is near normal, this year it will be a good year for wheat.
Esfandiari Pour
reminded: Despite the decrease in wheat cultivation, we have tried to reduce
the area under cultivation by adopting methods for increasing water
productivity such as type and diameter irrigation and good management.
Referring to
the launch of a joint project with Simit in order to increase wheat production,
he said: new cultivation practices, including cultivation on permanent stands
and using world-class technologies and the use of new cultivars, are on the
agenda to increase yields and production would somehow compensate for the
reduced crop area.
Esfandiari Pour
said that in recent years wheat cultivation has decreased by about 12 percent
in the country, but has increased with technical measures and increased
productivity of wheat production. With the efforts of farmers and support of
the Ministry of Agriculture, this year it is anticipated that imports of wheat will
not be required.
