Decline in the world’s wheat production by 35 million tonnes
The recent FAO forecast for global grain production in 2018 is about 2595 million tons, which is about 62.5 million tons lower than the 2017 record. The expected decline in global wheat and grains production in 2018 compared to last year is about 35.2 and 34.1 million tons, while an increase of about 6.6 million tons is expected for rice. Global cereal consumption is projected to reach 2649 million tons by 2018/2019, which is 1.3 percent higher than 2017/2018. Expected levels of wheat, coarse grains and rice intake in 2018/2019 are about 740 million tons, 1401 million tons and 509 million tons, respectively.
