40% of the country’s food security is dependent on wheat
Said the ministry’s director of agriculture “Wheat provides more than 36 percent of people’s calories, and about 40 percent of the country’s food security depends on wheat,” .
Abbas Keshavarz said during a meeting with members of the Central Council of the National Wheat Farmers Foundation of Iran that wheat is the basic and architect of Iran’s agriculture.
“The more wheat is supported and treated, the more the crops will be better off,” he said, noting that wheat has an impact on other crops.
The farmer noted: Unfortunately, in previous governments there was an inappropriate increase in the area under irrigated wheat cultivation, and that increased cultivation area without any ecological basis caused the wheat crop to become agrarian, but in this state, wheat cultivation We planned based on ecology.
He pointed out that wheat regulates the agricultural arrangement of the country, stating that, except for southern Iran, there is no competing wheat product and other products match their wheat. The more support and care the wheat fields receive, the better the crop will be.
“Wheat provides more than thirty-six percent of people’s calories, and forty percent of the country’s food security is dependent on wheat,” the ministry’s chief of agriculture said.
Pointing out that fortunately we have no problems with seed and fertilizer, he emphasized: Wheat growers should use good quality seeds and I have talked to the President about the subsidy for seed.
Keshavarz said the Wheat Farmers Foundation is expected to take care of wheat production and quality, although the quality of Iranian wheat is much higher than that of imported wheat.
“I believe in non-governmental organizations for agricultural development,” he said, adding that diversification should also be considered in wheat production.
